Johnston Canyon's Thoughtfully Designed Walkway Overlooks

Johnston Canyon's Thoughtfully Designed Walkway Overlooks

Johnston Canyon's walkway overlooks are thoughtfully designed to enhance the hiking experience by providing breathtaking views of the canyon's most iconic features. These elevated platforms and catwalks are strategically positioned along the trail, allowing visitors to safely enjoy close-up and panoramic perspectives of the waterfalls and narrow limestone gorge. At the Lower Falls, a bridge spans the creek directly in front of the cascade, leading to a short tunnel through the rock where hikers can peer out beside the falls, feeling the mist and hearing the roar. Further along, at the Upper Falls, two main overlooks offer contrasting views: one at the base of the falls where water crashes into a deep pool, and another above the canyon rim, providing a dramatic top-down view of the full drop. These overlooks are linked by secure, steel-supported walkways that hug the canyon walls, creating a continuous and immersive experience. The combination of safe passage, intimate natural encounters, and elevated viewpoints makes the Johnston Canyon walk one of Banff's most visually rewarding hikes. Johnston Canyon Home
