Elevated Walkway Bridges of Johnston Canyon

The walkway bridges of Johnston Canyon are one of its most distinctive and memorable features. These sturdy, steel-supported catwalks and wooden footbridges are suspended along the canyon walls, allowing hikers to traverse narrow gorges and cross over rushing waters without disturbing the fragile environment below. Built and maintained by Parks Canada, the walkways offer safe, elevated views of the canyon’s dramatic limestone formations and give visitors the thrilling experience of walking directly above Johnston Creek.

Many of the bridges curve with the shape of the canyon, enhancing the sense of immersion as hikers wind through the landscape. Several key bridge crossings provide prime views of the waterfalls, including the iconic bridge in front of the Lower Falls, where visitors can also enter a small tunnel for an up-close look. These elevated paths not only preserve the natural terrain but also make the trail accessible to a wider range of visitors, combining safety, sustainability, and stunning scenery into one unforgettable trail experience.
