Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls and Upper Falls

Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls and Upper Falls are the two main highlights of the hike, each offering a distinct experience. The Lower Falls, located about 1.2 km (0.75 mi) from the trailhead, tumble 10 meters (33 feet) into a deep pool, framed by towering rock walls and lush vegetation. A small tunnel in the rock allows visitors to step into a close-up viewpoint where the mist from the waterfall fills the air, creating an immersive experience. Continuing another 1.3 km (0.8 mi), hikers reach the Upper Falls, an impressive 30-meter (98-foot) cascade plunging into a narrow gorge. Two viewpoints provide different perspectives: a lower platform near the base, where the raw power of the water can be felt, and a higher vantage point, offering a sweeping view of the falls and surrounding canyon. In winter, the Upper Falls freeze into massive ice formations, attracting climbers and turning the canyon into a spectacular icy wonderland. Johnston Canyon Home
