Two Beautiful Waterfalls at Johnston Canyon

The two beautiful waterfalls at Johnston Canyon - the Lower Falls and the Upper Falls - are some of the most iconic natural attractions in Banff National Park.

Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls

Location: ~1.2 km (0.75 miles) from the trailhead.
Height: ~10 meters (33 feet).
Why It's Beautiful: The narrow gorge funnels the rushing water into a dramatic cascade, creating a powerful and enchanting sight. A small tunnel pathway leads to a viewing platform that allows you to get incredibly close to the falls. From here, you can feel the mist and hear the roar of the water. Location: ~2.5 km (1.55 miles) from the trailhead.
Height: ~30 meters (98 feet).
Why It's Beautiful: The Upper Falls are taller and more dramatic, plunging from a sheer cliff into the canyon below.
There are two viewing platforms: The lower platform, where you can stand near the base and marvel at the sheer force of the falls. The upper platform, which provides a bird's-eye view and showcases the surrounding cliffs and forest.
