Johnston Canyon's Iconic Lower Falls

Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls is one of the most iconic spots along the trail, offering a close-up view of a powerful waterfall rushing through a narrow limestone gorge. The falls drop about 5 meters (16 feet) into a turquoise pool, framed by steep rock walls shaped by thousands of years of erosion.

A key highlight of the Lower Falls experience is the small cave-like tunnel near the viewing platform. Visitors can crouch through this natural rock opening to get an even closer look at the waterfall, feeling the mist and hearing the roar of the water up close. This adds an immersive element to the experience, making it a favorite for photographers and nature lovers.

The hike to the Lower Falls is about 1.2 km (0.75 miles) one way from the Johnston Canyon trailhead, following a well-maintained path with catwalks suspended along the canyon walls. The relatively easy, family-friendly hike takes around 30 minutes and offers stunning views of the creek, mossy rock formations, and occasional wildlife sightings along the way. Johnston Canyon Home
