Johnston Canyon Bridges

Johnston Canyon features several bridges and elevated catwalks that provide breathtaking views of the canyon and waterfalls. These structures allow hikers to experience the rushing water from different vantage points while ensuring a safe and accessible trail.

1. Bridges Near the Lower Falls (1.2 km One Way)

First Bridges & Catwalks: Shortly after starting the hike, metal catwalks and small bridges are attached to the canyon walls. These offer close-up views of the river below as it flows through the narrow gorge.
Lower Falls Bridge: Located just before the Lower Falls, this bridge crosses the canyon, offering a frontal view of the waterfall. The bridge also leads to a small rock tunnel, where hikers can step inside for an even closer view of the falls.

2. Midway Bridges (Lower Falls to Upper Falls – 1.3 km)

This section has fewer metal walkways as the trail moves away from the canyon walls into the forest. A few wooden bridges cross over the creek, allowing hikers to look down at the flowing water.

3. Bridges at the Upper Falls (2.5 km One Way)

Lower Viewpoint Bridge: A small bridge near the base of Upper Falls, offering an excellent view of the water plunging into a deep pool.
Upper Viewpoint Bridge: Located at a higher elevation, providing a top-down view of the waterfall. This bridge gives a more dramatic perspective of the water forcefully dropping into the canyon.

4. Ink Pots Bridges (Beyond Upper Falls – 5.7 km One Way)

The trail past Upper Falls has fewer bridges and shifts to a more natural dirt path. As you approach the Ink Pots, small wooden bridges cross over streams, offering peaceful views of the crystal-clear water and open valley.

Best Bridges for Overlook Views

Lower Falls Bridge – Best for a direct, close-up view of the waterfall.
Upper Falls Lower Bridge – Great for standing near the water's edge.
Upper Falls Higher Bridge – Best for an overhead perspective of the powerful drop.
Catwalk Bridges in the First Kilometer – Best for viewing the deep canyon walls and rushing creek from above.

Each bridge provides a different perspective of Johnston Canyon, making them some of the most scenic stops along the hike. Johnston Canyon Home
