Walkway Benches along the Johnston Canyon Hike

The benches along the walkway on the Johnston Canyon hike in Banff are strategically placed to allow hikers to rest and take in the stunning views of the canyon.

Benches Near the First Bridge

Location: Shortly after the trailhead, near the first bridge, there are usually a couple of benches where hikers can pause to enjoy the sound of the creek and the surrounding forest.
Why Stop Here: It's a great spot to take a break early on, especially if you're hiking with family or are adjusting to the trail.

Benches on the Way to the Lower Falls

Location: About halfway to the Lower Falls (1.2 km one way), you'll find a bench or two tucked along the walkway, often in shaded areas or where the views open up to showcase the canyon.
Why Stop Here: This is an ideal resting spot to admire the rugged canyon walls and the rushing water below.
Bonus Benches: There are additional benches along the trail, particularly closer to the Upper Falls (2.5 km one way), and near lookout points.
Tips: These benches can get busy during peak hours, as Johnston Canyon is a popular destination. If they're occupied, there are other spots to step aside and rest. If you're aiming for a more peaceful experience, visit early in the morning or late in the day. Johnston Canyon Home
