High Walkway Overlooks Johnston Canyon

Johnston Canyon in Banff National Park offers a captivating hiking experience through its deep, limestone-walled gorge. The trailhead is located at the Johnston Canyon day-use area.

Due to its popularity, the trail can become quite busy, especially during peak tourist seasons. To avoid crowds, it's advisable to start your hike early in the morning or later in the evening. Additionally, parking is limited, so consider using Roam Transit Route 9, which provides service to the trailhead.

In winter, the canyon transforms into a magical landscape of ice and snow. The trail can be icy, so traction devices for your shoes are essential to ensure safety. These can be rented or purchased at many retailers in Banff.
